Feel free to top it off with more crushed peanuts to add a more nutty taste and bit of crunch.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cookie mixes, eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, and creamy peanut butter. Stir until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Add the chocolate chips and stir until everything is combined.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into the baking pan.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes. The edges of the cookie bars should be lightly browned and the center should not be jiggly.
  6. Let the cookie bars cool completely before frosting.
  7. To make the frosting, scoop the frosting into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 20-30 seconds or until the frosting can easily be hand-whipped into a smooth, spreadable frosting.
  8. Stir in the peanut butter. Spread the peanut butter frosting over the cooled cookie bars. Top with crushed peanuts if desired. Slice and serve!
  9. Store leftovers in an airtight container. These bars freeze and unthaw well.

What are some health benefits of peanuts?

Your favorite childhood snack is more that just a snack. A small amount of peanut butter provides a good source of protein, healthy fats, and important vitamins and minerals, making it a nutritious addition to any balanced diet.

    Here’s a fun fact:

Peanut butter cookies have a light brown color and usually have a fork-pierced “crisscross” shape on top. They are said to have originated back in the early 1900s when educator George Washington Carver used them as part of a cookbook he wrote to promote the uses of peanuts.

Carver advocated for the use of peanuts by pointing out their health advantages. To further support his argument, he created this collection of recipes in which peanuts were featured as an ingredient. Later on, peanut butter cookies became one of the favorite snacks all over the world.
